First Newsletter October 2016
Beaufort Hill Welfare Community Hall
We promised a newsletter last year. We have been so busy with the day to day running at the hall; unfortunately it’s been on the back burner, until now.
A lot has happened since we officially took over the hall in April 2015.
We have had new children’s and disabled toilets installed. A new kitchen. A gym has opened downstairs. New front doors. New guttering and roof repaired. New rear doors. We have also taken over the community garden behind the hall, next to the park, and would like to thank Clive Scott for offering to be our head gardener. Also thanks goes out to the volunteers who turn up on Sunday mornings, the work they have put in has certainly made a big improvement.
Our Friday night events have been a great success and well supported by the community. Events included cheese & wine, Italian theme, Fish & Chip with bingo. Our 2 music events were provided by Ray Davies and Rizkee Bizness, both were well received. Our most recent Race Night exceeded our expectations, the fact that the ladies came dressed for Ascot just added to the fun and excitement.
We had a year of monthly table top events, with a good selection of stalls. Unfortunately we no longer have them, as there were not enough people attending to support the stall holders which was disappointing for us all.
We have been fortunate to have Louby Lou’s Interactive Storytelling this year. This is for parents and children. This is a monthly event on a Saturday morning. Looking at the photos on her Facebook page, everyone seems to have a lot of fun.
Our regular activities include;
Mother & Toddlers, Craft, PHAB, Children’s Dance Classes, Burlex Fitness, Gentle Exercise, Pensioners Club, Zumba, Circuits, Martial Arts and WI.
The hall is becoming a popular venue for birthday parties, baby showers and meetings.
We are very grateful to local businesses for donating prizes for our raffles, also to all the associations that have given us grants to achieve the improvements at the hall.
We are in the process of planning to have the stage upgraded with the aid of a grant.
Saturday 8th October – 10am – 12 noon –Coffee Morning
Friday 28th October – Rocky Horror Halloween Night
Our membership scheme is a way in which you are supporting the work that we do at the hall.
As from 2017 all memberships and renewals will be run from January, this will be easier for us all to remember. The membership fee will increase to £6 and will be charged pro rata as to when you join or renew your membership.
In the near future we will be looking at recruiting new directors to work with us, to build a strong team which realises the importance of developing a thriving community hall for local residents
We also need volunteers to help us.
Sometimes we need help in setting up the hall ready for events and on event nights.
To help clean the hall on a Tuesday morning.
To meet at 11am on a Sunday morning to maintain the community garden.
Door to door delivery of handouts in your neighbourhood.
If you or you know anyone who would be interested in becoming a director or a volunteer please let us know. Telephone 01495 309780 or speak to a director, names provided below.
Our hire rates are
Meeting room £5 per hour
Main hall £10 per hour
